Brooklyn, Don Pedro, StreightAngular, El Fuego, 500 mA, Electricians and Average Girls Upcoming Shows!

This past weekend Polk Records and Streight Angular had the privilege of heading down the highways and byways of Eastern America to the mystical and mysterious land they call Brooklyn, New York. (thanks to Invictus Booking.)

This was an adventure to say the least. When entering New York there is an overwhelming feeling that something is about to happen. What it is you don't know, but it's a combination of good and bad. IT's like all your biggest fears and joys come together as you bob and weave through traffic and come to a stand still as miles of cars slowdown almost in respect of the grandeur and power emitted by this beautiful and ugly city.

Don Pedro is a club in the middle of the projects in Williamsburg part of Brooklyn. It is a very unassuming joint, and when we pulled up to the doors we thought, "ok this is going to be interesting."

Turns out, it was! Awesome people and an awesome big room! The bartenders were great and the mexican door guy was really funny. There was a part of the night where this big white guy with a leather jacket came in to the bar and started to talk really intensely at the mexican door guy, almost like he was ready to punch his lights out. The small mexican door guy stared intently at the guy as if to say, "I'm not afraid of you or your leather jacket!" After a view moments of observing they actually broke the act and smiled and shook hands. It was something to see, cuz they ended up laughing at us for taking them seriously. They must have known each other or something.

Anyway, back to the show. Here are the Bands that played:

AVERAGE GIRL
EL FUEGO
STREIGHT ANGULAR
500mA
ELECTRICIANS

The show was great!

There was a phenomenal whirlwind of pop by Average Girl a trio of drums, guitar, harp and piano.

Then a band that should be rockin' stadiums called El Fuego from Philadelphia, PA. They really know how to not only bring the rock, but also put on a very entertaining show. They will be in Allston this Thursday at O'Briens! I highly recommend you going out to that show. IT's this Thursday, April 8. ( I know, I know it's the Sinbusters' CD Release/Last show! In life we gotta make choices...)

Then Streight Angular played a brash set of melody driven distortion and dance tunes. Al didn't even notice he was bleeding.

Then 500 mA to the stage and they blew the top off the place. They produced sounds similar to standing next to an engine turbine. Pretty awesome.

The last band to play and close out the night was Electricians. These guys know how to write straight ahead pop. Their songs have every element of entertainment. Fun melodies, cool choruses, and stop start guitar riffs.

Over all it was a great night, except for our friend's car got broken into. Human nature ceases to amaze me. New York is always tough, but we are better for it.
